Season Is In Full Swing
Well, if you haven't noticed the rivers flowing around you, then you haven't been out much. With the meltdown
in full swing you can find whitewater flowing all over Montana, and the northwest as a whole.
For some local Class II water check out Belt Creek which is still running at a decent flow, the Dearborn's lower
section, the Sun River below Gibson Dam, and o'l reliable--the Blackfoot. Head over to American Whitewater's
site to access real time flows from the USGS and a bit of info about all of the Montana rivers .
Soon we will begin developing a detailed description of all the local whitewater opportunities--just don't hold your breath!
UPCOMING EVENTS
Black Eagle Wednesdays Come on out and Join Us...
"If we don't hang together, we will certainly hang apart." Benjamin Franklin
Wednesday July 9th kicks off the first "official" meet and paddle below Black Eagle Dam. We try to meet around 4:30-
5:00ish and paddle 'til we stop. The waves/hole at the end of the island are in and are offering up great rides. We did
some fine tuning on the eddy service and now the first wave is an easy catch/surf and will lead you into the big wave
just downstream.
--July 16 ---Great crowd, nice to see so many people show up...the big wave has lost some of its retention, ferrying out
off the diagonal seems to place you right where you need to be. The top wave has become well defined and
breaking; great wave to jump on for practiced beginners.
-- July 23 ---Lots of folks heading up to the waves each day (what is the official name of that spot anyways.... I'll give a
free set of Smiley's nose plugs for the first person that can verify the name, because I really have no clue).
Anyways, not a lot of folks there today, but a wonderful day for paddling. The rapids continue to change with
the water level flucuation. The top wave is piling nicely, while the diagonal is much beefier and pushes you
right into the center wave when you're ready to slide over. Right of center there has developed a nice hole that
looks like it may pack a punch, but you'll have to carry up 30 yards to make that ferry, unless of course you're
goin' Old School and whippin' out the Corsica.
CLASSES
Our pool classes (first and third Tuesday of each month) have been a big hit as of late, both for novices looking to
nail that first roll, and the seasoned boaters sharing the past week's paddling stories while keeping up their skills.
July brings us to more manageable water levels, so our Rapid Progressions class dates have been set, as well as
our Intermediate Trips and one-day events.
Great Falls Riverfest
instruction in kayaking. We'll be there all day so drop on in and see Graydon, Lindsey, and Chrsitine and
jump in a Jackson Kayak for a free test drive on the Missouri River.

Paddle Palooza
In case you weren't there, you missed an exciting day
on the Missouri River. As a grand finale for the Lewis and
Clark Festival, Tom Figarelle, President of Pulse, put
together a nice event that exposed folks to various paddle
sports. Along with us, Craig from Montana River Outfitters
and Scheels, brought kayaks, canoes, rafts, and duckies to
Giant Springs for free instructional classes, a flotilla of sorts,
and the first annual kayak and canoe races (we'll have a cool
name for this race by next year). Taking top honors in the
kids division were none other than Hagan Vincent in the Matt Larson during Paddle Palooza. Bow stalling Montana style!
boys and Hannah Vincent in the girls' division. Graydon Photo by Graydon Muller
bested Eric by a whole 2 seconds (I'm certain he cheated
somehow) to win the men's open division in kayak. Scheels
donated gift cards to all the winners---thanks guys! The
Tribune put out a blurb about the event...Here's the link
