Beginning Kayak—Rapid Progressions
Would you like to immerse yourself in the sport of kayaking? Then you should drop in for a weekend of non-stop fun on the water. We start Friday afternoon with an introduction to the equipment and getting fitted for your kayak and gear. We'll discuss the plans for the weekend and spend a little time in the pool getting familar with our boats. Top it off with a little video action and we'll be ready to get started for two full days of fun in the water. Day 2 will find us on a local lake or pool learning several strokes and techniques that we'll need for our after-lunch trip to a Class I section of a local river. There we will discuss river reading and hazards, self and group rescue, and work on ferrying, "catching" eddies, peel-outs, and linking strokes together to best utilize your new skills.
The final day we will gear up for a full-day run down a section of Class II whitewater where you will be able to test your new skills. We will spend time further developing your paddling skills, allowing for different levels of devlopment accordingly. If you're up to it, we'll teach you how to surf or spin on a wave and "work" the river in a way to yield the most fun. All equipment--kayak, paddle, helmet, pfd, skirt, and al limited number of paddling jackets and other cold water gear--will be provided.
